What's in it?

1. The Oil-Lifter

The largest ingredient. Chain fling, fork seep and road film are mineral oils, which caustic cleaners can't react with at all. This surfactant lifts them physically: it wets under the oil, pulls it off the surface and wraps it in the water so it can't settle back. Works at any pH, on any oil. Chosen for its short chain, which penetrates thin oil films faster and rinses away without leaving a slick behind.

2. The Foam Builder

Coconut-derived, and the same type of surfactant found in mild shampoos. A bike is mostly vertical surfaces, so foam has to stand on a tank side or fork leg long enough to work; this is what makes it cling. It also gives the wash its slip, so when you switch to the mitt, grit floats off the paint instead of being dragged across it.

3. The Carrier

The most powerful all-round detergent of the four. Once the oil-lifter has loosened the grime, this keeps it suspended in the water until the hose takes it away, rather than letting it re-settle on the bike. Loading up on it is the cheap way to make a wash feel strong, and it comes at a cost you don't see until later: it strips waxes and polishes, pulls chain lube out of the O-rings while it's lifting the fling off the swingarm, dries out rubber seals and leaves plastics chalky and grey. The oil-lifter does the heavy work. This one just makes sure the result leaves.

4. The Stabiliser

Sits at the bubble walls and slows the foam draining, so it stays standing through the dwell instead of sliding off in seconds. Also gives the concentrate its body.

Together

The oil-lifter breaks the grime. The carrier takes it away. The foam builder and stabiliser make it cling and glide. Each one is there because the others can't do its job, and each is dosed at the level a motorcycle needs.

pH 8 maximum. Biodegradable per EC 648/2004.

Instructions
  1. Dilute 1:10 (100ml per 1L of water, 1 capful = 10ml)
  2. Rinse the bike first if there's loose grit or dirt
  3. Apply onto a cool bike with sponge or wash mitt — out of direct sun, and don't let it dry on the surface
  4. Leave on for a few minutes, agitate gently if needed — let the product do the work
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water
  6. For best results, follow with The Shield (No.02)
